HOW TO: WORKS CITED LISTS

Main elements that you need for a citation in your works cited list:

  • Author
  • Title of article
  • Title of book or magazine or web site
  • Where published (for books only)
  • Who published (for books only)
  • When published (or when page was last updated for a web site)
  • When you accessed it (website only)
  • Page numbers if using a direct quote (except for quote from a web site—there are rarely page numbers on web sites)
  • Title of database if article was found using a library database (such as EBSCO).

ALWAYS record this information for the sources you use in your projects.

Resources for creating works cited lists:

Noodle Bib <http://noodletools.com/login.php>
This site will help you compose your works cited list. This is a site that the ISKL libraries subscribe to so you will need to enter a username and password and create your own personal folder. Then, enter the information about your source, and Noodle Bib will format it for you. ISKL uses MLA (Modern Language Association) format)
If you need help using Noodle Bib please see Ms. Richardson.

Citation Machine http://citationmachine.net/
This site will also help you create your works cited list, but it will not format the entire list for you. You create the citation for each item and then copy and past it into a MS Word document and alphabetize it yourself.
